Jim Knapp’s rooftop solar system was the first in the Cayman Islands to completely power an “off-grid” home. 80 solar panels, 5 inverters and 72 batteries provide 24 hours a day / 365 days a year power for the home including air conditioning. The contemporary home uses all Energy Star electrical appliances and has not experienced a power outage since it was commissioned in November of 2008.
This home is the first LEEDs certified residence in the Cayman Islands. It utilizes two 20 panel solar arrays – one over the tennis pavilion and the second over the swimming pool. This home is an “off-grid” hybrid using battery storage to prevent outages when the utility is down.
This beautiful home tucked away in a quiet neighborhood close to town has solar power to reduce the family’s electrical bills. This 40 panel system has provided more energy in one month than the home used and is making the owners very happy they decided to go with solar here in Cayman.
